Panoramic drive to Rjukan

High mountain nature and exciting museums
The history about the Heavy water

The drive goes from Vrådal via Brunkeberg to Morgedal, called "The cradle of modern skiiing". Here you can visit Norwegian Ski Museum, which shows modern ski history through pictures, exhibitions and film. There is also a gift shop and café at the museum.

The drive continues west towards Åmot in Vinje and on to Rauland and over the high mountain area (highest point 1050 meters) to Skinnarbu with marvellous views over the south-eastern part of Hardangervidda.
On the road down the steep Vestfjorddalen we recommend a stop by the first tunnel to take a look down Maristijuvet.

Shortly after you'll arrive at Vemork museum. The museum is in the old power station, known from the sabotage operation in 1943. There are guided tours in the machine room and you can see exhibitions and battles during the second world war, and a film with and about the heavy water saboteurs. There is a café in the museum. We recommend Vemorkpakke where a guided tour and lunsj are included.

From Vemork you'll continue on towards Rjukan and if you have the time, we recommend a trip with the cable car "Krossobanen".

Drive through Rjukan, which Sam Eyde build up from the ground when he established Norsk Hydroelektriske Kvælstoffcompagnie (Norsk Hydro).

Continue on the reoad under Gaustatoppen - Telemark's highest moutain (1883 meters), through Tuddal (known for Knut Buen, Buens Amfi and an outdoor museum), to Sauland.

The drive continues west to Seljord, which is the commercial centre of the region, and then on via Brunkeberg to Vrådal.
